McKenzie Wins Round Two of Classic

With an excellent field of twenty-five cars on hand last night at the Bunbury Speedway for the second night of the Paul and Kaye Keen Classic, presented by Keen’s Truck Driver Training Bunbury. it was always going to be a tough fight to leave the venue as victor, but Jye McKenzie made the late nights in the shed worth it as he did just that!

There was plenty of racing across the night, with heat wins being shared by Daniel Keen, Round One winner Brad Fitzgerald, Blake Iwanow and Daran Humfrey, while the biggest incident of the night was Darryl George who spectacularly inverted his #73 machine in turn three, ending his night early.

The top eight on points after the heats would then go into a random draw situation for the top eight dash, with McKenzie making the most of his front row draw to race away with the win and lock in pole position for the feature. James Bissaker would then win the Mid Pack Dash to finalise the twenty-four starting positions for the twenty lap feature.

As the feature race went green McKenzie would lead, with Daran Humfrey coming from the second row to slot into second place, Daniel Keen doing the same for third and Fitzgerald dropping into fourth.
Lap two would see Fitzgerald muscle back past Keen for third, but Keen rectified the situation a lap later to retake the position, before all of a sudden Keen went high and Blake Iwanow came from nowhere to race through and pass both Keen and Fitzgerald for third.

The first yellow lights of the race would come out for a spun Matthew Fitzgerald in turn one with five laps complete, then as the field restart they came out again quickly, this time for Jordan Johnson who was facing the wrong way.

As the race resumed the battle for third would continue to rage, Keen and Iwanow continuing to swap positions, Keen getting third back on lap nine while behind them, there was plenty of positional changes throughout the field.

After a couple more stoppages, the field would settle once again, McKenzie racing away from Humfrey as Keen and Iwanow still fought it out, joined by Cameron McKenzie as they went three wide for third in what was an entertaining duel around the Bunbury bullring.

In the dying stages Blake Iwanow was able to dive underneath Keen, stealing third on the line, with McKenzie officially the winner and receiving just reward after only finishing the car late the previous night. He would officially win ahead of Humfrey and Blake Iwanow while Keen and Cameron McKenzie rounded out the top five.

Now that the Bunbury show is finished, the next show will be the final round of the Paul and Kaye Keen Classic, to be held next Saturday night back at the Collie Speedway!

A big thankyou also to Keen Trucking, Western Turf Renovations and TI Bill’s for supporting this weekend’s event, and we hope you enjoy the racing action!
