Five Time National Street Stock Champion Anthony Beare has celebrated his return to the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway with victory in the thirty five lap main event for the 2021 Mainspray Summer Cup.
Over fifty SSA Street Stocks converged on the South West venue for the second round of the 2021 Novus Glass Month of Madness presented by Speedway Sedans Australia, with extremely warm conditions testing man and machine.
The Street Stock racing across the twelve qualifying heats, the two B Mains and A Main were from the top shelf, with the racing surface allowing drivers to race two and three wide at times before a very healthy crowd.
Twenty three cars started the main event after Colin Metcalfe who transferred through the B Main was unable to take part in his Ford Falcon.
Jamie Oldfield and defending Summer Cup Champion Mick Hamon shared the front row, with the two time National Champion slipping all the way back to position fifteen in the early laps.
Oldfield, Ethan Genev, Beare and Hayden Norman quickly pulled away from the field, as the battles throughout the pack a real spectacle of Speedway Sedan racing.
Beare hit the lead on lap seven going around the outside of Oldfield and Genev as Norman soon passed the pair of them aswell.
The first stoppage of the race occurred on lap fifteen for Derby’s Jake Hoath who spun in turn four as David Padmore became the first retirement taking his Harcourts Realty Holden Commodore to the infield.
Disaster struck WA Champion Jamie Oldfield straight after the restart when the right rear tyre went flat on the Novel Smash Repairs backed entry ending his race.
Before long Hamon was back inside the top five, moving past the ODH Mechanical Holden Commodore of Paul Joss then Genev as he became the main talking point in the second half of the race.
Hamon then hit second place as he set out after the race leader Anthony Beare as the leaders soon began to work their way through the lap traffic.
2019 WA Champion Jack Barnewall who won B Main 2 was impressive throughout the main event as he advanced to position six before succumbing to a flat right rear tyre for the second time in as many weeks.
The strong run of Paul Joss came to an end on lap thirty one as came to a stop on the back straight with Hamon also heading infield within sight of the finish just as he was mounting a challenge for the lead.
