BUNBURY’S BIG WEEKEND GOES OFF WITH A BANG

Article By Speedway Sedans Western Australia
Taking the risk of running three major blue-ribboned events on the one weekend worked out highly impressive at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway with the final night of racing going off with a bang.
Kyle Sayer finally was able to step up after a long run of runner up finishes as he was able to defeat Ayden Trewern and team mate Tom Wilde in the Hills Panel Repairs Production Sedan Gold Cup.
Trewern was the man to beat all weekend, winning all three heat races on Friday night along with the Dash on Saturday to start of pole for the 30-Lap finale. But it was Sayer who was able to get the jump at the start and control the race from there on in.
The pair where in a class of their own for the A-Main, distancing themselves from a wild pack of drivers who where all fighting for the final spot in the podium. But it was 11th starting Wilde who stood strong to run home in third.
It was an easier task for Jamie Oldfield who sailed away from the field at every opportunity he got to win the East Pilbara Tyre Services Street Stock Summer Cup from Hayden Norman and Freddy Kinsella.
While Oldfield was the class above the rest, the race between Norman and Kinsella kept the crowd on their toes as both drivers went toe to toe in the heavy lapped traffic, with Norman edging out Kinsella for second.
The race of the night was the KJB Fabrication Junior Sedan Gold Cup Feature with five drivers all challenging for the win at one stage.
Coming to the checkered flag, it was Kayne Dellar leading Beau Oldfield and Jhy Pack with Dellar doing his best to keep the State Champion at bay. But as they entered turn three Dellar locked the brakes and drifted wide but was lucky to catch a break with Vince Lindsay coming to a stop on the front straight.
With a two lap run to the line, Dellar was put back in his position at the front of the field and this time didn’t put a foot wrong taking the checkers ahead of Oldfield who had one last crack on the outside to the line with Pack right behind the pair.
For the New Stars, no one had any answers for Baxter Trouchet who would take out the Gold Cup in fine fashion.
It was a dominating in for Trouchet who took the win over local David Hough and Summer Shore.
