Down the Highway

For the first time this season, the Wingless Sprints will travel down the highway to the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night for what will be the third round of the KeenQuip Championship Series as well as the third round of the Country Series!

Excitingly, this round has also attracted the biggest field of nominations so far this season, with twenty drivers signaling their intentions to compete.

With three nights of racing held so far this season for Wingless Sprints in Western Australia there have been three different winners: Tom Payet won at Narrogin, Chad Pittard at Kalgoorlie and Ash Hounsfield last weekend at the Perth Motorplex.

Excitingly, all three of these drivers are in the field this weekend and it is anyone’s guess as to who will get the nod. WA Champion Payet has been in terrific form, claiming a dominant feature win last weekend in another division so that form may translate over to the Wingless, while Hounsfield was also strong in his win and Pittard joined him on the podium at the last show also. One thing is for sure; the battle between these three will be worth the entry price alone!

Daran Humfrey has had a consistent start to the season with three podium finishes from three starts, but he is not content to settle and will be looking to break through for the feature win this Saturday night after being hot on the heels of the aforementioned trio.

Matt Iwanow is another who has been right there with the front runners and is desperate to get back into the form that saw him previously claim the WA Championship while brothers Jake and Alex Robinson last weekend debuted a stunning pair of cars and recorded some strong results, something they are hopeful of improving upon once again this weekend.

Bunbury local Kyle Beard did a fair bit of racing throughout the Winter season with some success up in the North West and he will be looking to get back behind the wheel in the best possible way on Saturday night while North West driver Matt Burston has also indicated he will be making the trip down this weekend. Others including Brad Fitzgerald and Brendon Wedge impressed at the Motorplex last weekend and will look to build on that momentum.

Tyson Bryden makes his first appearance for the season as does Russell Seery, while Stephen Hughes, Warren Hunter and James Bissaker have been clocking up the miles as they travel with the country series, something they will be keen to get some reward for on Saturday night in the form of a solid result.

Matty Fellowes, Tom Britton and Troy Tomlinson also had relatively quiet first nights out last weekend at the Motorplex so will be looking to turn it up a notch and get right back into the mix of things while David Shaw enjoyed his first ever meeting and will be keen to get more laps under his belt.

With such a huge field, the Wingless Sprints could quite easily steal the show at Bunbury this Saturday night so make sure you bring someone to hold on to!
